Nos anos 90 uma banda chamada Dürt Würk estava próxima ao sucesso, mas o vocalista Terry Hunt tinha outros panos, fez sua banda assinar um contrato dando tudo para ele, na mesma noite eles tivesse um acidente de carro e não lembram muito o que aconteceu. Terry foi para uma carreira solo e ficou famoso, enquanto os outros membros tiveram que voltar a ter uma vida normal.
Kris a personagem principal é intimidadora e não desisti, adorei ela, ela está nos seus quarenta e perdeu o rumo da vida depois que sua banda acabou, agora ela trabalha em um hotel na parte da noite sozinha. Ela decide ir atrás de seu ex colega de banda que roubou sua música e sua alma, conectando pelo caminho com pessoas de seu passado. Também tem Melanie, que não sabemos por que ela está na história até mais pra frente, ela é jovem e está presa a empréstimos estudantis e seu namorado bundão, ela quer ver o último show de sua banda favorita que a ajudou em momentos difíceis.
Ambas são mulheres fáceis de se sentir conectada, elas podem ser qualquer mulher que você vê trabalhando, ambas tem homens em suas vidas que as colocam para baixo, elas querem mais da vida, mas e difícil e assustar ser sozinha. Tem bastante momentos tensos assustadores, coisas repugnantes e humor, e momentos que eu não esperava e me deixaram grudada no livro.
Esse livro ofendeu minha pessoa, por gostar de new metal, mas eu ainda dei cinco estrelas porque adorei o livro. Eu gostei que reconheci várias bandas e referencias, outro livro do Grady Hendrix que me fez me sentir nostálgica, antes com My Best Friend's Exorcism de novo com todas as músicas, eu tentei aprender baixo quando era adolescente, me fez lembrar de várias coisas e bandas.

Kris the main character is badass and a fighter, I loved her, she is in her forties and lost herself after her band broke up, now working in a hotel at night shifts alone. She goes after her former bandmate that stole her music and her soul, while connecting with the people of her past. There is also Melanie, that we don't know why she is in the story until later, she's a young woman that's trapped with student loans and a lazy boyfriend, she wants to see the last concert of her favourite band that helped her in difficult times.
Both women that I could totally related to, I felt it could be any woman working near me, both have man in their lives that's always putting them down, they want more, but is hard and scary to be alone. There are a lot tense scary moments, gross, humour, and moments I wasn't expecting to happen which keep me glued in the book.
This book personally offended me, new metal kid here, I still gave it five stars because it's great! I like that I recognized most of the bands and references here, another Hendrix book that gave me nostalgic feelings, before with My Best Friend's Exorcism again with all the music, I tried learn how to play bass when I was a teenager, made me remember of a lot of things and bands.
